WHEN CALVIN MEETS MASS HYSTERIA AND INSECURITY

My college has this culture where the male students where suppose to mark their presence in the hostel by Waiting for the warden to come with his register to the respective rooms and note down their presence, this intensity of waiting for the roll call would gradually diminish when semesters  pass by… So this one was a night, I never felt like going back to my hostel rather I would stay back at Swami’s place, not with any great purpose to serve but just to while away the time by watching movies and listening songs ....

Swami had this desktop picture of Calvin…who was not so sure about the parenting techniques adopted by his parents!!

I looked at Calvin the same way he was looking at his parents, when I had to take the glimpse of the pic.

“Intimidated...!”

We started to watch a movie that swami had selected;but still i had Calvin coming up frequently in my head …until the movie was over and further too.

As I couldn't resist thinking about it…I started to run the memories and the events that had occurred in my childhood again n again…in my brain all over the night. The next day we where walking to the college office to get a bonafide, then

I asked Swami...what’s that desktop picture you had da?? Were Calvin was staring at his parents and wondering if they where good at parenting??

He said about the possibilities of his life and all the chances that he could have experienced; he said about his life that had stayed unknown!! Till now..; is because of parents who took our hands to the stature that we possess at this moment.

The insecurity that our parents have, when it comes to their children is because of the fear of their child becoming an unsuccessful candidate of life.

The fear of chances of their child telling, why didn’t you tell me while you people had seen this coming, tells Swaminathan.

Our parents develop this Insecurity feel when they slip into a Mass hysteria, take this instance where our society thinks  if a person is enrolled in an engineering course his or her future turns to be as bright as   *sorry  I couldn’t find any metaphor* and takes part in a spree of generating engineers!! By easily neglecting all the other likes of the individual...this eventually gives rise to a society filled with cliché
“Yes I know, this is again a clichéd example!”

Our parents could be like “child look, there are two ways you can do this. You can either follow me or you can figure out and tell me what is that you have” by just explaining the differences and try not falling into any kind of  hysteria and developing insecurity.

Days of me forgetting are over; Days of me remembering have just begun!
